Ash Dieback Symptoms and Tree Surgery
Ash Dieback Symptoms - How to identify them and where to report it ?
Ash dieback has been classified as 'notifiable' by DEFRA, meaning any cases of Ash dieback must be reported.
The images above are of healthy Ash trees. Note. The seed clumps (top right) are not evidence of disease.
Ash Dieback Symptoms (see below) are visible on leaves in the form of spots and/or shrivelled and deformed leaves. On branches and twigs, look out for diamond shaped lesions which later crack and split. The crown of the tree also visibly dies back.
If you believe a tree has ash dieback
Take photographs of the leaves and any other affected areas, DO NOT CLIMB the tree, it may not be safe.
Make a note of it's location, so it can be mapped.
Using the button below submit the details and photos to us and we will give you a free online diagnosis as to whether we believe the tree has ash dieback or not.
Please note, we can only offer this free online diagnosis in the areas we cover - principally North Wales, Anglesey, Cheshire, Shropshire and the Wirral. Unfortunately we are unable to offer this free service outside of those areas. (Note: Outside of those areas you should be able to contact your local authority tree officer for advice).
If we believe the tree has ash dieback, we will be able to advise you on the best course of action. If the tree is protected by the Local Planning Authority or where the tree is deemed to be dangerous we will contact the local tree officer on your behalf. With your permission we may also make the data available to relevant agencies to help monitor the extent of ash dieback on a national basis.
Ash Dieback Tree Surgery
Tree surgery is not a regulated industry, so if a tree with ash dieback has to be taken down, it is very important to use a tree surgeon that is fully qualified (NPTC) with public and employers liability insurance.
Some insurers are now not insuring tree surgery relating to ash dieback.
Your local tree officer will be able to recommend a reputable tree surgeon in your area.
If you are in the North Wales, Anglesey, Cheshire, Shropshire or Wirral areas and require tree surgery

Ash Dieback testimonials
“Our situation posed a series of complex challenges to getting the work required done. All options were assessed and discussed, risks identified and mitigated, and a plan of action drawn up. When it came to actioning; everything went like clockwork. Every team member knew what they needed to do. Pleasant, knowledgeable, professional, efficient. I would have them back, and would certainly recommend.”
